The Electric Decade, and Why Data Decides It
Girish SP on Sonar.ev, EV fleet telemetry, and why the winners of electrification will be the companies that make their energy data legible.
Electrification is often framed as a hardware race — better batteries, denser charging, cheaper vehicles. Running Sonar.ev has convinced me the decisive layer is software: whoever makes energy and vehicle data legible controls the economics.
A fleet operator's real question is never abstract. It is: which vehicle is costing me money, which charger is underused, and will tomorrow's routes finish on the charge I can afford tonight? Those are data problems dressed as hardware problems.
Telemetry is only useful when it is reconciled. Vehicle data, charger data and tariff data live in three different systems with three different clocks. The unglamorous work of stitching them into one truthful record is where the margin hides.
India makes this sharper. Energy prices, duty cycles and infrastructure quality vary enormously between cities, so a fleet decision that works in one market fails in another. Local, granular data beats global averages every time.
My bet for the decade: the operators who treat energy as a managed, measured input — not a fuel bill they receive at the end of the month — will simply run cheaper than everyone else.
